CactusCon - Malware and the Syrian Civil War

Date & Time: Month DD, YYYY at H:MM - H:MM
Location: Venue - Street Name and Number, City, State, Postal Code
Speaker: Bishop Fox

Since its beginning in March of 2011, malware has played an important role in the Syrian Civil War. Members of the Syrian opposition are routinely targeted in malware campaigns launched by the regime and its supporters, often with deadly results. This talk will review two years of collected and analyzed malicious software used in the Syrian conflict. This presentation will detail research about the tactics used, actors involved, and analysis methods employed. Attendees will be offered a look into how an authoritarian government uses digital surveillance to spy on its citizens and remain in power.

Zach Julian will be presenting Malware and the Syrian Civil War at CactusCon 2014.
