The year is 1983. Supplies and entertainment are both running low. A technical editor from the future suddenly appears with a security style guide from 2018 and challenges you to spell terms as they appear in the guide. Sure, you can survive “chatroom” and “sandbox,“ but you get a sinking feeling that in later rounds, capitalization is going to count too. The odds are against you, but it’s the end of the world… you might as well go out in a blaze of glory.
Technical Editor Brianne Hughes will conduct SpellCheck: The Hacker Spelling Bee at DEF CON on Saturday, August 11th at 3:00 PM.
25 spelling challengers can sign up to compete and you'll be up against the newly minted SpellCheck champion from Circle of HOPE.
Sign up by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, starting August 1 at 12 p.m. PST. The subject line should be "DEF CON SpellCheck" and the body needs to include a word you've misspelled in a previous bee or just one you have trouble spelling. The first 25 spellers have a guaranteed spot. Alternates will be contacted if necessary.
